Your short RNTQ seem to hit me right when I need them. That could be as soon as they come out or when I happen upon them in my email. I always appreciate them. I love your longer content as it's beautifully written but also insightful. I just don't always have time to read something longer with intention and focus, so I tend to put them aside to get to them later. Same with the videos. I value all of it. I wish I could be a paid subscriber so I could take advantage of everything, and I wish I had more time to really let everything soak in as it's coming. (In other words, whatever I don't read, it's not for lack of interest but lack of time or attention span.) I love what you're doing.

Thank you so much, Michelle. I am so pleased to have the feedback and know that shorter is useful and time is at a premium — this kind of information helps me think through what I want to do down the line.

I'm not a person who watches a lot of videos or listens to podcasts, but if that's what is currently working for you, I'll make an effort.

Particularly if transcripts are provided for when I can't manage audio.

Thank you for this. I have been wondering about how folks who are not big video people (I’m usually not but have become more interested in video lately) feel about it and whether a transcript would make a big difference. I try to provide a transcript anyway, for accessibility reasons, but this is super helpful to know.

I will often read a transcript when I wouldn't have the energy for a video.

Thank you for asking! I like your videos a lot - nice to see you, hear your voice, explore your world, check out the neat stuff in the background, vicariously go to the beach. My note would be to make them shorter–you can say a lot in 3-4-5 minutes. In the same way I love RNTQs - they appear in my inbox, and I can immediately enjoy/ponder them. Longer things get set aside for later and I don't always return to them. Hope that's helpful!

Thank you! This is very helpful, especially from one of my very favorite filmmakers. :)

I would watch a video or listen to a podcast if it interested me but I ALWAYS read the short RNTQ, they really do lift me up. Also beach pictures. I like your essays (on lipstick, clothing sizes, etc etc) very much. And more than once the “hey I see you” notes have been deeply moving for me.

I like the videos, but sometimes when I'm watching i don't have my headphones, and I refuse to be That Person watching something loudly in public. I'm more likely to watch if I catch them first thing in the morning when I'm at home.

Bless you, bless you for not being That Person watching something loudly in public. Point taken!

I'm an RNTQ "lifer" and, so far I've enjoyed (and carried some kind of benefit away from) it in all its forms. In my case, the format I most appreciate varies over time and often depends on how many other events are happening in my life. Example: this summer I'm reading for my comprehensive exams, so I appreciate the short RNTQs immediately, but need to go back and catch up with some of the longer form essays and videos. When I don't have a large mandatory reading list, RNTQ moves much further up the queue. I haven't felt "meh" about any format you have tried so far --I do, however, find some formats easier to follow when I have more time to read/view as I like instead of as I can.

I enjoy finding a variety of your offerings in my mailbox. I’m not always able to read or watch your longer items when they arrive, but I love being able to sift through and enjoy the bitesize deliciousness of RNTQ. The additional aspects you mentioned sound lovely, but I’d prefer them in addition to and separate from the current sweet lil’ treats you so generously share.

Timing and personal schedule can limit my time to follow and comment in real time.learning just have to catch up. But Substack is expanding and I find hard to filter what I want to be involved in !
