If you manage nothing else in terms of how you set up and maintain your living space, you will still have a reasonably successful time of it if you ensure that all the things in your living space all meet these four conditions:
clean
dry
working
accessible

Clean means simply that: not dirty, not dusty, not crusty or moldy or mud-spattered. Things can be worn, they can be frayed around the edges, they can be very well used and show it. Clean is its own thing.
